Jeff of Cathedral City, 07-27-2013

Jeff putting in some road miles on his mountain bike south end of Palm Springs.
Today's ride: Amtrak Station to the entrance of the Indian Canyons, which are still closed.  This was disappointing as I wanted to check the condition of the washes after last few thunderstorms.

Photo Shoot Uninterrupted, 07-27-2013

Photo shoot of woman in a bikini with with beach stuff on side road to Amtrak Station just south of I-10 on Indian.  They seemed a bit annoyed by my presence resulting in this distant shot.  Oh well.....

Araby Wash at Araby, 07-25-2013

Looking up the wash south-southwest with mud and ash washed down from the recent rain.  Just a week ago, before the Mountain Fire, that ash was a forest.

The Good and the Ugly, 07-22-2013

The good, a section of the Whitewater River Multi-Use Trail in Rancho Mirage.
The very ugly, north bound Date Palm Dr. north of Vista Chino where the shoulder ends and danger begins.  For this road section between this point and Varner Road it is much better to ride north on the south-bound shoulder of the road.

Pasco del Bosque, Albuquerque Class 1 Bike Trail

This was a very nice 16 mile multiuse trail along the Rio Grande River in Albuquerque.  Albuquerque is a very bicycle friendly city.  There were "Share the Road" signs everywhere as well as Class two bike lanes and frequent connectors to the trail pictured in the photos above.  Our valley could learn a lot from their model.

Lesson Learned, 07-14-2013

500 Monguls are having a meeting this weekend staying at the Palm Springs Hilton Hotel.  I thought it would make a good Desert Roadkill blog post to have a photo of some of them with their bikes showing their colors.  What I failed to take into account was how I may appear to them while dressed in my road cycling garb straddling my road bicycle with its rainbow colored yarn bomb on the top tube ( http://desertroadkill.blogspot.com/2013/06/yarn-bombed-06-24-2013.html ).  When I politely asked one of the Mongols if I could take his photo with their bikes he suggested I take one of the other Mongol's photos.  I suggested to him that they weren't as "pretty" as he was.  His response," I'M NOT PRETTY MOTHER-FUCKER!  I'M A MAN!"  I took this to be a hostile response meaning that he wasn't interested in having me take his photo, so I threaded my way through the fellow bikers and left.  I realize there was something wrong with the delivery of my request.

30th Avenue, East, 07-12-2013

Photo facing east at 30th & Da Vall.  Apparently 30th Avenue is going east.  Wonder where?
Desert Willow in full bloom on Tahquitz Creek Country Club.  Once upon a time this tree was growing wild in the Araby Wash, now part of TCCC.  Note cloud cover giving the desert a break from the high temps.  We even have had a few rain sprinkles the last two days.

Jim, My Apologies, 07-07-2013

Today as I was riding out to the Indian Canyons I heard a sound similar to the sound a woodpecker makes when it is banging its beak against a tree.  The pictured Raven was making the sound.  It even allowed me to take its photo.  Jim, I'm sorry I doubted you.
Today's ride: 16 miles, Hermit's Bench, out-and-back, http://connect.garmin.com/activity/338943154 .
