New Bob Hope I-10 Freeway Overpass, 07-30-2011

I made my first crossing of this not-yet-completed overpass.  Today's ride: 35 miles, Varner-Bob Hope Loop + Indian Canyons.  It was a Saturday morning and there was no construction activities on the overpass and I was able to ride across both the freeway and the railroad tracks to Bob Hope Dr. from Varner Rd.  Today was my first ride where this was possible.

South-southwest toward Andreas Canyon, 07-17-2011

Today's ride: 18 1/2 mile out-and-back to Hermit's Bench, Palm Springs Indian Canyons.  Saw a lot of quail and dove on today's ride.  It seems there is quite a bit of coyote scat on the Indian Canyon Road, today I saw a chipmunk tearing some of it apart and noticed the scat has quite a bit of what look to be undigested squash seeds in it.  Near Hermit's Bench there were three redtailed hawks circling together and at least one of them was quite vocal.

Desert Tortoises to Stay Off the Roadway, 07-14-2011

This is the road to the entrance to the Palm Springs Indian Canyons and it has major waterline work going on.  The small orange fence along both sides of the road are to keep desert tortoises off the road during this construction project.

Mesquite Beans, 07-12-2011
