The worst section of cycling road in the western valley may get fixed. Date Palm Dr. north of I-10 to Varner Rd. is a horrible mile of pavement. It looks like help may finally be on the way. I'll believe it when it happens.
I had two out-of-the-ordinary encounters on this morning's ride: 1) while waiting for the light to change I was on the right side of the 2nd lane on Vista Chino at Date Palm, a young, 16ish, driver says to me as he turns right onto Date Palm, "Get out of the car lane! Asshole!" We exchanged one finger salutes and went our own separate ways; 2) while big gearing it down the hill on Varner toward 1,000 Palms a bug flew into my ear and struggled and buzzed around for a few miles until walking out and sitting on the top of my ear for a few moments. It was disconcerting while traveling around 30 mph down Varner.
Today's ride: 26 1/2 miles, Bob Hope Loop, http://connect.garmin.com/activity/229618248 .
